How A Teacher Can Help a Student With Attention Deficit Disorder Achieve Success in School:

There are many different techniques that a teacher can use to help provide a better working environment for a student with A.D.D. These techniques not only work, but they also help to identify times when the student is able to work appropriately. One such strategy is a monitoring/reinforcement system. The first step in creating such a system is to identify the student’s target behaviours, i.e. working quietly, paying attention, staying on task, completing work… After the target behaviours have been identified, form some type of behavioural chart which tracks the students target behaviours and helps to keep him or her focussed. Positive reinforcements for good behaviour can be stickers and points that are to be displayed on the chart. Other rewards can include a smile, praise, pat on the back, etc…It is important to work closely with parents and to share your observations with them.
